Mama’s Boomshack is what the lovechild of James Brown and Sly Stone would’ve sounded like - a 7-piece band fronted by four horns, two singers, and a rhythm section with more kick than an ornery mule. Their new album, “Speed Of Soul” is a 9-song manifesto of what’s best described as funky soul music - songs that draw from multiple influences and genres, but always return to deep roots in the funk and soul music of James Brown, George Clinton, Tower of Power, and Sly Stone. They have been dedicated to preservation of the movement of hips since 2010 and plan to keep the funk alive well into the future.
