SESSION AMERICANA is a group of musicians’ musicians: a cast of top-shelf players, singers, and writers: Billy Beard, Jon Bistline, Ry Cavanaugh, Dinty Child, Jim Fitting, Jefferson Hamer. The group tours internationally now, taking their new and old songs, and hundreds more from the American songbook, on the road. Whether you catch Session Americana in a rock hall, listening room, performing arts center, or on a festival stage, you’ll be part of the mob from the intimate, raucous scene they built years ago at Toad, the neighborhood bar where it all began in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Support for this show: Nora Brown w/ Stephanie Coleman:
“Some of the most interesting and haunting traditional music we’ve heard… impossibly talented… One thing that I really loved about both your albums is that both your banjo technique and your vocals are amazing. You seem to be mining these old songs with emotions far beyond your years.” – Jason Verlinde, Fretboard Journal
“Sidetrack My Engine is both a reverent nod to deeply-rooted ole-time traditions, and an exhibit of sonic heirlooms carefully amended to meet a modern moment with vintage elegance.” – Madeline Crone, American Songwriter
Nora Brown plays old-time traditional music with a particular interest in eastern Kentucky and Tennessee banjo playing. Along with the banjo and guitar she also sings traditional unaccompanied ballads from southeast Appalachia and beyond.
She has played at numerous venues and festivals including TED Salon in NYC, NPR Tiny Desk, Joe’s Pub, the Floyd Radio Show, Brooklyn Folk Festival, Oldtone Roots Music Festival, Irvington Folk Festival, Blue Ox Festival in WI, Mountain Song Festival in NC, and has had multiple month long residencies at famed Barbès in Brooklyn NY. She has been featured in a variety of podcasts including WNYC’s Dolly Parton’s America along with NPR’s Weekend Edition and All Songs Considered and Apple Music has placed her on the American Best Songs, New In Acoustic.
Nora has won numerous banjo and folk song competitions at various fiddlers conventions including the Clifftop Appalachian String Band Music Festival and Grayson County Old-time and Bluegrass Fiddlers Convention.

IMPORTANT COVID-19 PROTOCOL UPDATES
OLS is committed to providing a safe environment for all who work, listen, or perform live music in our venue. Because our venue is so small, effective on August 3, 2022, we will require all staff, volunteers, and patrons to wear masks indoors unless they are actively drinking, eating, or performing. Certain shows, at the request of those artists, will also require proof of vaccination against COVID-19 for entry to OLS.
We will require mask usage as our default policy unless stated otherwise; please refer to the language on each concert’s event page to check the policy for the show you are attending.
PLEASE NOTE: ALL SHOWS OCCURRING BEFORE AUGUST 3, 2022 WILL STILL REQUIRE PROOF OF VACCINATION + MASKS FOR ENTRY.
If the show you are attending requires proof of vaccination:
Proof of vaccine must come directly from the health care provider that performed the vaccination and can be a photo or physical copy of the vaccination card or record. Full vaccination means that the date of the performance you are attending is:
- at least 14 days after your second dose of an FDA or WHO authorized two dose COVID-19 vaccine, or
