Marc Chillemi Quintet: Tribute to Blue Note Records

May 10 @ 4:00 PM

Doors open an hour before showtime.

The Marc Chillemi Quintet brings the sound and spirit of 1960s hard-bop to the stage, celebrating the legacy of Blue Note Records. Led by
trumpeter Marc Chillemi (Primo Cubano/Raging Brass), the group honors the music of Blue Mitchell and Horace Silver—two voices whose soulful compositions and driving rhythms helped define an era.

Fueled by improvisation and tight arrangements, Marc brings together a special mix of rising talent; Jesse Beckett-Herbert on tenor saxophone, Clifford Cameron on piano, bassist Duane Edwards (Primo Cubano), and veteran drummer Jan van Voorst van Beest. After a year-long residency at The Henry in Portland’s Old Port, the band is excited to make their debut at One Longfellow Square. Join us for a night of timeless Blue Note sound—alive, raw, and deeply human.

Marc Chillemi is a musician, bandleader, educator, arranger and composer, with more than 35 years of experience in the music industry. Early in his career, he spent nearly a decade touring nationally with the Boston-based band Babaloo, as well as performing and studying jazz, Caribbean traditions, and music of the African diaspora. After arriving in Maine, he quickly became active on the local music scene, performing with a range of artists and groups during his first decade in the state, including Esperanza, Sean Mencher, Kate Schrock, and Rob Sylvain’s Cajun Aces.

For the past 25 years, Marc has been based in South Portland, Maine, where he has built his career, contributed to the region’s creative community, and raised his daughter. His work reflects a strong connection to place, shaped in part by time spent along the waterfront at Willard Beach and Bug Light—landmarks that continue to inform his artistic perspective.

Marc is dedicated to bringing people together through music and cultural exchange. He is a longtime member of Primo Cubano, and the bandleader, composer and arranger for his 7-piece brass band, Raging Brass. His work continues to bridge performance, education, and community engagement, grounded in the place he calls home.
