Produced by Butch Walker (Taylor Swift, Green Day, Weezer), Amythyst Kiah’s Still + Bright expands on the rootsy alt-rock sound of her breakthrough album Wary + Strange with a darker, more cinematic edge. Blending fuzzed-out guitars, industrial beats, pedal steel, and Kiah’s graceful banjo work, the album explores spirituality, identity, nature, and self-discovery through bold, emotionally rich songwriting.
While Wary + Strange centered grief, trauma, and alienation, Still + Bright finds Kiah writing from a place of confidence and creative freedom. Songs like “Play God and Destroy the World” and “Empire of Love” reflect on everything from religion and humanity to personal autonomy and spiritual connection, while tracks like “S P A C E” explore meditation, presence, and finding peace amid uncertainty. Along the way, Kiah channels inspirations ranging from Appalachian landscapes and Eastern philosophy to sci-fi films and gothic storytelling.
The album also marks a new chapter in Kiah’s creative process, featuring collaborations with artists and writers including S.G. Goodman, Billy Strings, Sean McConnell, Tim Armstrong, Sadler Vaden, and Avi Kaplan. The result is a fearless, genre-bending collection that further establishes Kiah as one of the most original voices in contemporary folk, Americana, and alt-rock.
