David Grant and The Reveals w/ Truth About Daisies and Charlie Schmidt

The Reveals are aptly named; their songs move the listener from the mundane to the revelatory in the space of a verse with unrepentant honesty. Inspired by great songwriters like Ryan Adams, Glenn Hansard, and Jeff Tweedy (to name a few), their music is rooted in timeless structure and form, a voice (or two) riding a wave of indie grooves, guitars, keys, bari sax, drums and bass.

You can find The Reveals living, teaching, and playing in Portland, Maine.

From David Grant (singer and songwriter):

I’ve been writing songs my whole life. In second grade I slipped on my older brother’s headphones and listened to side one of 1966-70. I was held captive by that record for the next many many months. It was my first encounter with interiority. The piano became my new best friend and all I wanted to do was make songs.

An outcome of that old friendship is The Reveals new album Because Tomorrow, a collection of songs (some old, some new) that search for meaning and ultimately find that meaning is feeling.

The band and the sound of The Reveals are the result of timeless friendship as well.

I began playing music regularly with the impeccable Christian Perry (bass in The Reveals, and a talented guitarist and drummer) more than twenty years ago.

We later both found ourselves teaching at King Middle School in Portland, Maine (the birthplace of so much good karma) where we hooked up with the ecstatic Bobby Shaddox (drummer and singer in The Reveals, and a talented guitarist and songwriter).

The inventive Hans Indigo Spencer (a bonafide composer whose talents and experience are too expansive to capture between parenthesis) brought bari sax and improvisational keyboards to the group two years ago, and all of the pieces finally fell into place to make a record. The Reveals were born.

When I play with The Reveals, I always hear the wondrous coalescence of songs and friendship. When everything is really humming, I experience the exquisite sensation of sound becoming feeling.
