After 23 years as a recording artist, singer-songwriter Chris Knight remains committed to delivering unflinching truth in every song. Raised in Slaughters, Kentucky, he follows a simple rule: “If I can’t believe myself, I won’t sing the song.” That no-frills philosophy fuels his Americana-rooted blend of folk, country, and rock across nine studio albums—from his 1998 debut to 2019’s electric, hard-hitting Almost Daylight.
Because Knight’s music lives outside the mainstream, he’s earned his audience one show at a time, where his stark tales of rural life and resilient characters resonate most. Standout tracks like “It Ain’t Easy Being Me,” “Carla Came Home,” and “Everybody’s Lonely Now” showcase his raw, narrative style. His writing draws heavily from his upbringing in mining country, his work as a reclamation inspector, and the influence of his musical hero, John Prine.
