MJFF presents: Dust Bowls and Jewish Souls: Another Side of Woody Guthrie with a Special Appearance by Sarah Lee Guthrie

November 8 @ 4:00 PM

Doors open an hour before showtime.

Maine Jewish Film Festival presents the Maine premiere of Dust Bowls and Jewish Souls: Another Side of Woody Guthrie, filmmaker Steven Pressman’s exploration of the Jewish influences that helped shape one of America’s most enduring songwriters and activists. The film traces Woody Guthrie’s close relationship with his mother-in-law, celebrated Yiddish poet and lyricist Aliza Greenblatt, and the impact she had on his music, family, and worldview.

Before the film, Woody’s granddaughter Sarah Lee Guthrie will take the stage for a special live set featuring songs made famous by Woody and her father, Arlo Guthrie, alongside her own original music. Sarah Lee will also join the audience for a Q&A following the screening.

And a little something sweet: our friends at Lewiston’s She Doesn’t Like Guthrie’s are generously providing baked goods for the occasion, in support of MJFF and in celebration of their shared love for Woody Guthrie.
