Your Portland Jazz Orchestra returns to OLS on November 20th at 8PM with a truly special guest: Grammy Award–winning vocalist and saxophonist Darmon Meader of the New York Voices. PJO is thrilled to welcome Darmon for a night of world-class singing, stunning sax work, and selections drawn from the New York Voices catalog—making this an evening you won’t want to miss.
Performing regularly at One Longfellow Square since 2006, the Portland Jazz Orchestra is Maine’s premier concert jazz ensemble. Under the direction of Dr. Chris Oberholtzer, this 19-piece big band brings a dynamic mix of original works by local composers alongside music from jazz legends like Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Stan Kenton, and Maria Schneider.
Made up of top-tier musicians from across New England—many of them educators—PJO’s members have performed and toured with artists such as Natalie Cole, Tony Bennett, Wayne Bergeron, Barry Manilow, Roberta Flack, the Temptations, and the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra. They also continue their longstanding commitment to education, offering clinics and performances throughout northern New England.
